Connecting Help Scout to OttoKit

Create your own Help Scout OAuth application and connect it to OttoKit. This only needs to be done once.

Before you begin, sign in to Help Scout as an active user on the account you want to connect.

Important: Use the My Apps section inside Your Profile. Do not create the app from Manage > Apps, as that section is for Inbox sidebar apps and will not give you the credentials OttoKit needs.

Step 1: Open the My Apps page

1. Log in to Help Scout and click your profile icon in the top right corner.

2. Select Your Profile from the dropdown menu.

3. In the left sidebar, click My Apps, then click Create My App.

Step 2: Create your OAuth application

1. Enter an app name, such as OttoKit, so you can recognize it later.

2. In the Redirection URL field, paste this URL exactly as shown:

https://api.ottokit.com/help_scout/connection

3. Click Create.

Tip: The URL must match exactly, including https and no trailing slash. A mismatch is the most common cause of connection errors.

Step 3: Copy your credentials

After you create the app, Help Scout shows a credentials screen with two values you need:

In Help ScoutIn OttoKit
App IDClient ID
App SecretClient Secret

Copy both values somewhere safe. Treat the App Secret like a password and do not share it publicly.E56a1fa3 Ece3 4c00 A87b 86e6341ff3cc

Step 4: Connect in OttoKit

1. Go to your OttoKit connections and start a new Help Scout connection.

2. Paste the App ID into the Client ID field.

3. Paste the App Secret into the Client Secret field.

4. Click Connect. You will be redirected to Help Scout to approve access, then sent back to OttoKit automatically.

Once authorization completes, your Help Scout account is connected and ready to use.
