Connect Google Tag Manager to OttoKit

This guide walks you through creating a Google Cloud app and obtaining the Client ID and Client Secret needed to connect Google Tag Manager to OttoKit.

Step 1: Create a Google Cloud Project

1. Go to https://console.cloud.google.com and sign in.
2. Click the project dropdown at the top and select New Project.
3. Enter a project name (e.g., OttoKit – Tag Manager) and click Create.

4. Make sure the new project is selected in the top menu before continuing.

Step 2: Enable the Tag Manager API

1. Go to APIs & Services > Library
2. Search for Tag Manager API and click Enable.

3. If you see Manage instead of Enable, the API is already active.
   

Step 3: Configure the OAuth Consent Screen

1. In the left sidebar, go to OAuth Consent Screen and click Get Started.
2. Set App name to OttoKit and enter your support email.
3. Under Audience, select External. Enter your contact email and agree to the policy, then click Continue > Create.
4. Click Create OAuth Client.
5. In the Branding section in Sidebar, add ottokit.com as an authorized domain and click Save.

Step 4: Create OAuth Credentials

1. In the Sidebar, go to Clients and click + Create Client.
2. Set Application type to Web application and give it a name.
3. Under Authorized redirect URIs, click + Add URI and enter:

https://api.ottokit.com/google_tag_manager/connection

4. Click Create
5. Click the client you just created and copy the Client ID and Client Secret. Save these somewhere safe.

Step 5: Connect to OttoKit

1. Log in to OttoKit and open any workflow.
2. Add a Google Tag Manager action.
3. In the connection dropdown, click Create a connection.
4. Enter the Client ID and Client Secret from Step 4.
5. Click Connect Google Tag Manager and sign in with your Google account.
6. If you see a “This app isn’t verified” warning, click Advanced > Go to OttoKit to continue.

You have now successfully connected Google Tag Manager to OttoKit.
